AFRICAN CHAMBER FOR TRADE

It must be emphasized that ACT is not established to compete with the various national chambers of commerce; rather it aims to complement and work with them to fulfill the objectives, potentials and opportunities created by AfCFTA. Therefore the promoters/founders of ACT are seeking close working partnerships with the respective national chambers of commerce of each member country of AfCFTA. Indeed we are proposing that each national chamber adopt that country’s branch of ACT, hosting its secretariat and directly managing its affairs, albeit in co-ordination with two representatives of ACT’s pan African secretariat who would be entirely dedicated to ACT’s activities – this to ensure that no conflicts of interest can possibly arise and to ensure that ACT’s activities are carried out even during periods of extraordinarily heavy activity by the national chamber itself. We expect therefore that members of national chambers will also be members of ACT concurrently.
